On 18 October 2008, the Asian Beach Games has been officially opened. The opening ceremony that took place on Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park was aired on TV and became the headline on many Indonesian newspapers. Million pairs of eyes were set toward this historical sport event and its spectacular opening.
With this post, we want to apologize for the misinformation we gave you on our last post regarding the opening ceremony of Asian Beach Games. On that post, we refer to the English Wikipedia page, which was mostly not correct as you can see live on TV. I think the (Indonesia) Asian Beach Games Wikipedia page has the correct information, as we quote below:
Upacara pembukaan Asian Beach Games 2008 diadakan di Garuda Wisnu Kencana pada pukul 19.00. Selain presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono beserta ibu, hadir pula tamu-tamu penting lainnya seperti presiden IOC dan Ketua Olympic Council Of Asia. Upacara pembukaan dimeriahkan oleh 3 Asian Divo yaitu Andre Hehanusa (Indonesia), Christian Bautista (Filipina) dan Mark Lazaro (India) menyanyikan lagu To Be One. Lagu tema Asian Beach Games 2008 dinyanyikan oleh Reza Artamevia berjudul Inspire The World. Proses penyalaan obor Asian Beach Games dibawa oleh Suryo Agung Wibowo, sprinter Indonesia kemudian diberikan kepada Taufik Hidayat dan Obor dinyalakan oleh Gusti Oka Sulaksana yang diiringi dengan tari Kecak.
